Home Study #1

I figure it's about time to write about our home study last week. It went really well. Our social worker was really nice so that was good. She let us know ahead of time that when she looked over her glasses at us she wasn't trying to be stern, she just can't see through the glasses. Her questions focused mostly on our childhoods, family, and relationship with each other. I talked about all the fun I had with my cousins growing up. Aaron talked about golfing and airplane trips with his family when his dad had his pilots license. She wanted to know what we fight about and all we could come up with was that Aaron gets annoyed when I don't put the toilet paper roll on the holder and I get annoyed when Aaron leaves an enormous pile of ironing for 4 weeks. We seriously don't fight often - I'm not sure she believed us. On the not so positive side, we were told that the Russian program is slowing down right now due to some cases of adopted children from Russia being killed in the USA. That obviously looks very bad to the Russian government. There have also been some paperwork issues. In addition to that, when we sent in our home study paper packet we had filled out a form regarding different medical issues we would be willing to consider in a referral. We put "maybes" for some things which our social worker told us actually is considered "no." (Why have "maybe" then?) Because we actually have all "no's" she told us our wait could be even longer. So we are going to take another look at filling out that form and maybe get some professional help in order to better understand all of the medical terms and the long term effects that go along with them. This has been a little stressful for me. Ultimately, we want our child to be healthy but we don't want to be passed up for a referral if the child has something in his/her medical history that is easily correctable. Well, this is getting long. The next step is our second home study at our house next week. The social worker said that she wouldn't be opening closets and drawers so I guess I don't have to clean those (much!)

Bethany -
I always wondered which one of you kids wasn't putting the toilet paper roll onto the holder when you were growing up. Guess I just found out who the guilty person was! I always blamed it on the boys.
